Individual Therapy

People seek individual counselling and psychotherapy for many different reasons. Sometimes there's a particular difficulty or experience that feels hard to make sense of. At other times, it may be a more persistent feeling of dissatisfaction, uncertainty or being caught in familiar patterns, without fully understanding why.

Working together in Chiswick, West London, or online, we can explore these experiences more closely, understanding not only what's happening in your life now, but how your relationships, personal history and ways of responding to the world may have shaped the difficulties you're facing.

The ways we think, feel and relate to others are shaped by our experiences, often long before we become aware of them.

Understanding these influences can help us recognise familiar patterns, question old assumptions and begin to respond differently to ourselves and the people around us.

Many of us develop ways of coping, relating and protecting ourselves early in life. These responses often make sense in the circumstances in which they develop, helping us manage difficult feelings, relationships or experiences.

Over time, however, we can find ourselves carrying these same patterns into adulthood, even when they no longer serve us particularly well.

You might notice this in your relationships, in the expectations you place on yourself, or in the way you respond to conflict, disappointment or uncertainty. Perhaps you find yourself avoiding difficult conversations, putting other people's needs ahead of your own, struggling with self-criticism or feeling responsible for how others feel.

Individual therapy gives us an opportunity to explore these patterns together, not simply to identify what you do, but to understand how and why these ways of responding developed.

As that understanding deepens, it can become possible to relate to yourself and others with greater awareness, flexibility and choice.

Approach to Therapy

Understanding Yourself

Areas I Work With

What brings someone to therapy is rarely straightforward. Difficulties often overlap, and what initially prompts us to seek support may be connected to experiences or patterns

we haven't yet fully understood.

These are some of the areas I commonly explore with clients:

Anxiety, Stress & Overwhelm

Anxiety can take many forms - overthinking, constant worry, difficulty switching off, perfectionism or a sense of always needing to be one step ahead. We can explore not only how anxiety affects you, but what may sit beneath it and the role it has come to play in your life.

ADHD, Neurodiversity
Whether you're navigating an ADHD diagnosis, exploring autistic traits or beginning to understand how neurodivergence may have shaped your experiences, therapy can offer an opportunity to make sense of these discoveries. We can explore the impact on your relationships, sense of self and everyday life, including the expectations and pressures you may have carried for many years.

Relationships & Relational Difficulties
Relationships can bring both connection and difficulty, often revealing patterns we may not fully recognise in ourselves. You might find yourself repeatedly drawn into similar dynamics, struggling to establish boundaries, fearing rejection or feeling responsible for other people's feelings. Individual therapy offers an opportunity to explore how you relate to others, what you may have learned about closeness, trust and emotional safety, and how these experiences continue to shape your relationships today.
Self-Esteem, Perfectionism & People-Pleasing

You may appear capable and confident to others while privately feeling that you're never quite doing enough. Perhaps you place high expectations on yourself, find it difficult to say no, or feel responsible for keeping other people happy.

Together, we can explore where these expectations may have come from, how they influence your relationships and sense of self, and what makes it difficult to trust your own needs, decisions and sense of worth.

Loss, Change & Life Transitions
Loss isn't limited to bereavement. Relationships ending, changes in identity, work, family, or simply finding yourself at a different stage of life can leave you questioning things you once took for granted. Therapy can provide somewhere to make sense of what has changed and what comes next.
Depression & Low Mood

Depression and low mood can affect how you feel about yourself, your relationships and everyday life. Sometimes there's an identifiable reason; at other times, you may struggle to understand why things feel so difficult, or why you've lost interest in things that once mattered to you.

Therapy offers an opportunity to explore what may lie beneath these feelings, including experiences, relationships and patterns that may be contributing to how you feel.

Alcohol, Dependency & Addictive Behaviours

Our relationship with alcohol or other addictive behaviours can develop gradually, sometimes becoming a way of managing difficult feelings, stress or experiences we find hard to face. You may be questioning your drinking, recognising patterns of dependency, or feeling caught between wanting things to change and finding that change difficult.

Therapy offers an opportunity to explore what these behaviours may be helping you manage, how they affect your relationships and sense of self, and what might make a different way of responding possible.

Beginning Individual Therapy

Deciding to begin therapy isn't always straightforward. You may have a clear sense of what you'd like to explore, or perhaps something hasn't felt quite right for some time, and you're finding it difficult to make sense of why.

An initial consultation gives us an opportunity to talk about what has brought you to therapy, what you're hoping to understand or change, and whether working together feels right for you.

You don't need to arrive with everything worked out. Sometimes the starting point is simply a willingness to explore what's happening and what might be possible.
